Great Floridian XXII - Intermediate Distance Race Information

When:
Saturday, October 20, 2012. 8:30am Start!

Where:
Clermont Waterfront Park, Clermont, Florida. Clermont is centrally located just 22 miles west of Orlando at the junction of US 27 and SR 50. Major Orlando tourist attractions are only 30 minutes away and the ocean beaches are just an hour away. Orlando International Airport is 40 minutes southeast of Clermont.

Course:
Swim: A 2K (1.24 mile) swim in picturesque Lake Minneola, designated as "Outstanding Waters" by the State of Florida. Projected water temperature: 72-80. Swim cut-off is 1 hours and 15 minutes after the start of the last wave. Participants still swimming after the cut-off time will not be allowed to continue.

Bike: A 62K (38 mile) course consisting of the first 30 miles and last 8 miles of the Great Floridian Bike Course.  No major elevation changes, but expect numerous rolling hills and a steep but short climb up Sugarloaf Mountain. Technical support teams will travel the course and support/aid stations will be located approximately 10-12 miles apart. There is no bike course cut-off for the short course.  

Run: The 15K (9.3 mile) course, which is on the South Lake Trail, takes you along the Southern shore of Lake Minneola and than out into tree canopied portions of the trail in rural Clermont. Support/aid stations will be located approximately one mile apart. Each support station is equipped with water, thirst quencher, ice, sponges, cola (defizzed), fruit and assorted foods. There is no run course cutoff time for the Short course.

Course Maps: We are planning to use the same courses as we have since 2010. These courses have had very positive feedback from both the triathletes and the spectators. The maps are located HERE.

Eligibility:
Open to individuals 15 years of age or older on race day and two or three person relay teams. The Great Floridian Triathlon is an event designed for experienced triathletes only. The right to accept or reject any entry is reserved. Please be aware that there are several cut-off times during the event that all participants must adhere to. Failure to meet cut-off times will result in disqualification and removal from the course.

More than 300 volunteers from numerous Central Florida civic organizations are committed to make your race a safe and memorable experience.

Awards:
INDIVIDUALS - Attractive awards presented to the top three overall finishers, top masters finishers, top three finishers in each age group, and the top three Clydesdale/Athena finishers (Men 200 lbs., Women 150 lbs.) ages 18-39 and 40 & over.

RELAY TEAMS - Attractive awards presented to the top three teams in each division: male, female, co-ed, and masters (all members aged 40 & over).

Amenities:
Participant t-shirt, commemorative item, race packet, free post-race massage, Pasta Dinner, Awards Brunch, swim cap, post-race refreshments, complete race results and other goodies. Official individual finishers will receive a Great Floridian finisher's medal and T-shirt.
